Thanks to the fundraising and donations of past P&C & supporters at Payne Road State School, the last major infrastructure project was investing $70,000.00 to install air-conditioning into our school classrooms. The Department of Education Queensland does not fund air-conditioning in any metropolitan Brisbane schools, due to the P&C investment students and teachers have enjoyed air-conditioned classrooms for the last eleven years.
A portion of the funds for the air conditioners came from a Queensland Treasury loan that the parents of the day approved. A full school survey found overwhelming parental commitment to paying a donation of $40 per child, each year to fund the repayment of the loan, and more importantly the annual maintenance cost for the air-conditioning systems. This equates to approximately $1.00 per week per student.
Ongoing funding contributions, such as the Building Fund donation and the successful operation of the P&C’s services, ensure your P&C is able to contribute to a range of projects and programs that would otherwise be out of reach of our school’s budget. This year the contribution from the P&C will total around $265,810 and involves projects listed in the attached table.
The Payne Road State School P&C is only able to make such a significant contribution thanks to the continued support of parents, families, teachers and staff at fundraising events and the successful operation of our services including OSHC, Tuckshop, Uniform Shop, Book Shop, Facilities Hire and Music Supporters Group. The efforts of all involved in these activities ultimately help provide a richer school community and learning environment for all our students and their families.
